“When we drop fear, we can draw nearer to people, we can draw nearer to the earth, we can draw nearer to all the heavenly creatures that surround us.”

“My husband and I like to read at the table, sharing paragraphs and tidbits of information. He surprised me last week by reading selections from Primates of Park Avenue: A Memoir, by Wednesday Martin. (Simon & Schuster, 2015.) He found it engrossing, and so did I.”

SUNSM “woman wardrobe”

Like the rest of the people in the Western world, I believe that my fashion choices reflect aspects of my personality. When I wear clothes, they are really symbols, or a type of language which explains who I am. Hence, for example, I will only buy and wear analogue watches which have an old fashioned feel to them and I, as a general rule, only wear ‘classic’ looking clothes. This fashion choice relays the information that I seek to go above the merely ephemeral and wish to feel part of a tradition. The fashion choice is also a homage to my grandfather, who, like the rest of the Asian Diaspora of his generation, would wear suit jackets and trousers and shoes even in their leisure hours. Hence, I favour cardigans with nice buttons, shirts and jackets, although I will often wear these with the ubiquitous blue jeans and trainers (so even in the application of my personal, general rule, there is something that is more contemporary). Sometimes, I also mix this old-fashioned basis with a layer of brilliant colour. As I write this piece, for example, I am wearing a bright pink jumper with a white t-shirt showing underneath and with blue jeans. I believe that these intense colours relay ideas about my passionate and intense nature, my whimsical, flamboyant and creative side.

What I wish to consider here, is how much self-expression and creativity is allowed in our fashion choices. After all, most of us do not make our own clothes. We wear the vision of others. Our self-expression and creativity therefore, when it comes to fashion choice, appears to consist in our selection and arrangement of clothes in relation to other people’s selection and arrangement of clothes.

It’s simple they say: “Eat right, exercise and rest.”

We’ve all heard these suggestions to keep out body in our ideal shape. But what about our skin? How do we keep our largest organ healthy?  I’ve body buttered, I’ve exfoliated, I’ve bathed in coconut oil. I drink a gallon of water everyday, I rarely drink diet sodas or juice. I’ve done this all in the hopes of achieving clear, healthy skin from head to toe.

Not only am I working on the look of my skin but also the definition of my body. I’ve recently started getting  chiropractic adjustments as well as practicing Yoga for 30-45 minutes a day. My body is grateful for it. I’m witnessing one of the best changes of my life at 31.

I feel better about myself than I have in a lifetime.

Below is my current body skin care regime. I’ve found the Shea Moisture brand to live up to its awesome reputation. It’s high quality without breaking the bank. I look forward to the continued results.

The Body Regime

Wash: Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Body Wash

Oil:  Shea Moisture Argan Oil & Raw Shea Body Oil

Post: Shea Moisture Honey & Black Seed Skin Healing Elixir with  Honey & Black See After Shave

Remember: Pat, don’t rub your skin dry. Oil your skin as soon as you’re out of the shower/bath. Water is your friend and don’t be afraid of adding in flavor enhancers to keep you sipping though out the day.

I have never owned a red bag. As my birthday neared I made the decision to pick this little lady up to carry around in Manhattan over the weekend. I have to say I made an excellent choice. Kira fits a great deal and still looks sleek and city ready. I love the color, Massai, a deep orange-red, as well as the saffiano leather, made for those of us who aren’t so gentle with our bags & clutches. Mini bags, with a punch, are on trend this spring. What are you carrying in yours?

When I entered my late 20’s I started to really take a good look at my skin and my skin care routine. I’ve always adjusted what I purchased for my age and skin type. But as I got older, the more I found what didn’t work versus what did and would. I became more determined than ever to find my personal “holy grail” of skincare. Not ready to go under the knife or the needle, I started trying it all. Much to my husbands amusement, a quick trip to Target turned into a 30 minute field trip to the beauty section. When I couldn’t find what I needed, I scoured the internet for it. Usually winding up at Sephora. With their selection of everything from cheap makeup sponges to $600 curling irons, I quickly became a Sephora VIB Rouge member.

Lets get this clear now, I am by no means a professional MUA or highly experienced in professional beauty, but I can proudly see that my research has paid off, so much so that I wanted to share my own successful combination of products and routines.

My daily routine is based on a very loose (very, very loose) interpretation of a Korean skincare routine. Along with eating well, staying hydrated and working out, I’ve been able to maintain my results.

*Note that I use a lot of Peter Thomas Roth (PTR). While I’m faithful to products that work I’m not brand fixated. If a product is no longer effective I will search for another brand.

AM Routine

  1. PTR- Rose Stem Cell Bio Repair Cleansing Gel (Applied with fingers and wiped off with a wash cloth)
  2.  PTR-Un-Wrinkle®  Peel Pads (20 count) *Bi-Monthly or PTR Blemish Buffing Beads (I wouldn’t recommend both in the same sitting)
  3. PTR- Glycolic Acid 10% Toning Complex Clarifying Toner (This will burn a bit you can neutralize the acid with plain water if it’s too much)
  4. PTR- Oilless Oil 100% Purified Squalane (AM: 3 drops/ PM: 5 drops)
  5. PTR- Peter Thomas Roth Un-Wrinkle® Lip
  6.  Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream SPF 35 in Dark

I apply my “daily” makeup after this or I will simply bronze my face and go. I don’t do touch ups during the day unless I’m wearing lipstick, then I apply as needed.

PM Routine

  1. Boscia – Makeup Breakup Cooling Cleansing oil
  2. Steps 1-5 from above followed by a mask. I use one of the following depending on the condition of my skin at the time:

I’ve been trying different brands of AM/PM eye cream and when I find “the one” this will be updated.

Wash your face. Clogged, nasty pores and oily “day after” makeup isn’t sexy and can eventually lead to less sex. Change your pillow cases. Often! AND Drink H2O, water, auga, l’eau or whatever you want to call it. Seriously, don’t fight me on this.

If possible add biotin to your daily viatamin or suppliment routine. I personally use the Phytophanere Duo (4 month supply) by Phyto. While some complain of breakouts and oily skin I only experienced this briefly and mostly when I was putting too much oil on my face in the morning.

Thats it. Cheers to you and your naturally glowing face this summer. Have a favorite step to your personal routine? Share it with us!

I went there, yes, I did. I dropped  my hard earned cash on a $50 bottle of nail polish. I’d do it again.

NIL Alta Perla

*Sip’s Dirty Chai Tea Latte*

Alta Perla by Christian Louboutin is hands down one of my best beauty purchases of 2014. I’m aware that the polish came out months ago. I acknowledged it with a smirk and a shrug. “That’s nice, Louboutin is widening it’s market.” I’d never buy a bottle, my personal color pallet is more monochromatic. “They’d never have anything for me.”

Or so I thought.

The color pallets are chic and beautiful. They’re broken into color categories like: “The Noirs“, “The Nudes” and “The Pops“. There’s a polish out there for everyone; from your conservative Aunt to your Pop-Punk but in their 30’s “fun friend”. In my personal line of work it’s better to have clean “almost nude” nails but after several months it gets boring. Alta Perla is a understated brownish-gray with a blue undertone. Far from super edgy-chic black but a bit tougher than a “clean” nude polish.

Alta Perla Bottle

Pricy? Yes. But the quantity in the bottle and the fact I only needed  to apply two coats won me over. My time is my money and the less I have to stop in nail salons for manicures that chip in 3 day’s the better! Two coats, at  home, episode of “Empire”, dry in 20. I’m going back for more.

Available on Sephora $50

NIL: VZ Vanity in the height of winter.

It’s been the worst type of winter.

Colder than usual with unpredictable storms and wind, so much wind. Right now I’m grateful for Peter Thomas Roth skin care line (yes, the entire line) and Smashbox BB cream in Dark, for keeping my skin on the up n’ up.  Water, rest and biotin should get me to spring.

Sometimes, it’s refreshing to mix things up a bit. Like forgoing Taylor Swift on replay for a little Sleigh Bells or, better yet, giving your standard, vanilla porn a breather in favor of some edgy alt adult fare. Because, well-placed arty tattoos, all the piercings, and a badass attitude just make life a little more interesting. Plus, there’s more to some of these alt ladies than performing in films. They’re out there writing, producing, and directing their work, and running their own companies—and looking flawless while they’re at it.

We talked to four women dominating the industry right now: actress, writer, director, and producer Joanna Angel (basically the Angelina Jolie of alt-porn); actress, model, new-media mogul, and author Kayla-Jane Danger; actress, model, and director Bonnie Rotten; and model-turned-actress-and-singer Skin Diamond. These fearless stars graciously took time away from the AVN Awards (a.k.a. the Oscars of adult film) to dispense crucial advice on making makeup stay put, keeping skin flawless from head to toe, and masterfully disguising blemishes, weird tan lines, and love bites all over. Spoiler alert: They hold differing opinions when it comes to personal grooming. Gotta keep it interesting, right?
